E. Kimbark MacColl, Jr.

Kim graduated from Princeton University in 1972 and received his law degree from the University of Oregon Law School in 1975. He became a member of the Oregon State Bar the same year. Kim joined the same predecessor firm as former partner Dennis Vavrosky in 1977. Kim's practice initially focused on workers' compensation defense. In addition, since 1992 his practice has included advising employers with regard to various problems common to both employment/labor law and workers' compensation, including return-to-work and rehiring issues. This includes advising employers on the Americans with Disabilities Act. He previously authored an Americans with Disabilities Act "Guide for Employers", and he currently is a speaker on related topics.

Thomas P. Busch - Shareholder

Tom graduated cum laude from the University of Portland in 1983 and received his law degree from Northwestern Law School of Lewis and Clark College in 1987. He became a member of the Oregon State Bar in 1988. Tom started his career representing claimants and plaintiffs in workers' compensation claims and civil litigation. Tom joined our firm in 1995 and expanded his practice of representing insurers, employers and self-insured employers in workers' compensation, and employment law related matters. Daniel J. Sato - Shareholder

Dan graduated from the University of Oregon in 1987. He received his law degree from the University of Idaho College of Law in 1994. He became a member of the Oregon State Bar the same year and the Idaho State Bar in 1995. Dan joined the firm in August of 2003. David L. Johnstone - Shareholder

David graduated from the University of Portland in 1978 and Northwestern School of Law of Lewis and Clark College in 1986. He became a member of the Oregon State Bar the same year and the Washington State Bar in 1987. Like Tom, David started his career as a claimant and plaintiff attorney. He then worked as an in-house defense attorney for a major insurance company. From 1995 through June 1996, he was an Administrative Law Judge for the Oregon Workers' Compensation Board, Hearings Division. He joined the firm in 1996. Since that time, David has concentrated primarily on workers' compensation matters in Oregon and Washington, as well as litigating Longshore and Harbor Workers' Compensation Act claims. Susan Maga - Associate

Susan graduated from the University of Massachusetts Amherst in 1997 and from California Western School of Law in 1999, where she was the Lead Articles Editor for the California Western International Law Journal. Susan became a member of the Arizona State Bar in 2000 when she began her practice of law in indigent defense at the Maricopa County Public Defender’s Office. In 2004, Susan opened up her own private practice of criminal defense until she became a member of the Oregon State Bar in 2008. Susan then joined the firm in September 2008 and began her practice of representing Oregon employers, insurers and self-insured employers in workers’ compensation and related matters. Julia M. Hier - Associate

Julia graduated from Middlebury College in 2003. She subsequently attended law school at the University of Oregon School of Law. While in law school in 2007, she served as a Rule 9 intern at the Washington State Attorney General’s Office Labor and Industries Division where she handled matters involving workers’ compensation and the Washington Industrial Safety and Health Act. She subsequently received her law degree from the University of Oregon School of Law in 2008 and became a member of the Oregon State Bar the same year. Julia joined the firm in October of 2010, after practicing as an Oregon workers’ compensation and OSHA defense lawyer since her admission to the state bar in 2008. Jonathan A. Rose - Associate

Jon graduated from Michigan State University with a bachelor’s degree from the Eli Broad College of Business in 1998. Following graduation he relocated to Chicago where he was a Director for ARAMARK, a professional services company. He received his law degree from Indiana University in 2007 and became a member of the Oregon State Bar that same year. Jon joined our firm in February 2011, after practicing in the areas of Oregon workers’ compensation, OSHA, ADA, civil and employment litigation defense since 2007. Jon has since continued his focus on assisting insurers, employer, and self-insured employers in matters involving Oregon workers’ compensation, OSHA, ADA, civil and employment litigation issues. Christo J. de Villiers - Associate

Christo graduated from Stellenbosch University in South Africa with a bachelor’s degree, and then a first law degree, LLB, in 1992. He completed his Masters (LLM) in Employment & Labor Law in 1994, with electives in International and Comparative Labor Law. After admission as attorney, he worked in the Attorney General’s office, prosecuting workplace safety and other statutory minimum employment conditions violations. Christo joined private practice, primarily focusing on employment and labor law defense for employers, both private and public entities, and obtained a diploma in HR Management. During 2007 Christo relocated to Oregon, and joined a workers’ compensation and employment law firm in Portland. In 2009 Christo received an MBA from Willamette University. James P. Sikora -
Associate

Jim graduated summa cum laude from the University of Pittsburgh in 2005. He subsequently attended the University of Pittsburgh School of Law. While in law school, Jim was an articles editor for the University of Pittsburgh Law Review and a summer law clerk for the United States District Court, Western District of Pennsylvania. He received his law degree in 2008 and is admitted to the Oregon State Bar, Washington State Bar, and the United States District Court, District of Oregon. Jim joined the firm in August 2013, after practicing in the areas of civil and employment litigation, Oregon and Washington workers’ compensation, OSHA, and employment law since 2008. Jim’s practice continues to focus on the representation of employers and insurers in matters involving Oregon and Washington workers’ compensation, civil and employment litigation, OSHA, and general employment law.
